National Curriculum Objective

Year 3 and 4 English: (4G5.7) Use of inverted commas and other punctuation to indicate direct speech [for example, a comma after the reporting clause; end punctuation within inverted commas: The conductor shouted, “Sit down!”]

Differentiation:

Beginner Add speech marks with only one sentence in the speech. Aimed at Year 4 Developing.

Easy Add speech marks (not split) but may have more than one sentence in the speech. Aimed at Year 4 Secure.

Tricky Add speech marks (split) to one sentence of speech. Aimed at Year 4 Secure.

Expert Add speech marks (split) to multiple sentences of speech. Aimed at Year 4 Mastery.
